A little parable on mental health support.

Once upon a time, there was a man enjoying the panoramic view from atop a cliff overlooking the sea. Unbeknownst to him, the limestone beneath him decided it had had enough waves lapping on it, and decided to cave in.

The man was thrown into the sea, and was promptly swept away by the undertow. "I shall surely perish", he thought as he trod water, "if someone does not throw me a line soon".

A boat passed by:

"It's a lovely day for a swim, is it not?", said the intrepid mariner before moving away, oblivious to the man's plight, before moving away.

A second boat passed by:

"You aren't doing it right, don't swim against the current, but diagonal to it. Also, a breaststroke is more efficient in energy preservation", said the second mariner from the safety of his boat, before also moving away.

A third boat passed by:

"How did you end up in the water? You should have thought about it before getting in, you know", and he also moved away.

A fourth boat passed by:

"Yeah, man! Rock on! Way to kick up some foam!", before moving away, also ignoring the calls for help.

The man eventually drowned. All four boaters happened to attend the funeral ceremony. They all looked very sad and concerned. They all were very eloquent on how you needed to treat the sea with respect, and they all lamented the newly departed did not call for help, even though he did.

After all, there was no one alive who witnessed them having sailed away.

Does that fit into what you know about mental health support?
